John Besh: My New Orleans

Take a trip to the Big Easy and still be home by midnight

It might be worth the drive to New Orleans for the cuisine of John Besh, whose Restaurant August in NOLA is generally acknowledged to be the best in town (take that, Emeril!). Fortunately, Besh is bringing himself and his food to Houston tonight as he presents his massive new cookbook, My New Orleans: The Cookbookat Ouisie's Table, in an event hosted by Brazos Bookstore. In the book's 16 chapters, he tucks recipes for jambalaya, beignets, watermelon pickles and fried oysters in between essays, photos and history lessons. And don't worry: If you get too hungry to make it home and prepare Besh's food yourself, Ouisie's will have several of his dishes available. 5:30 p.m. 3939 San Felipe. For information, call 713-523-0701 or visit www.brazosbookstore.com. Free.
