Spotlight on Contemporary Greek Cinema

Six filmmakers are showcased as the best Greece has to offer

Works by six of Greece's most renowned filmmakers are included in the first-ever Spotlight on Contemporary Greek Cinemashowcase at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Shown over two weekends, the films cover love, fear, greed and obsession. Today's screening features the 2007 The Night Fernando Pessoa Met Constantine Cavafyby director Stelios Chara-lambopoulos. It's a fictionalized chronicle of the real-life meeting of the two aboard an ocean liner bound for America in 1929. The two were considered to be among the greatest poets of their time. The 2008 short Street Battle (Odomachai)by director Christos Kanakis, which follows a man rushing home from work to catch a soccer match on television, will also be shown. 5 p.m. 1001 Bissonnet.
