Traves Hedemann: "Young at Heart Art"

Artist Travis Hedemann is known for his anime-esque, innocent style, putting his signature big, blue-eyed spin on everything from opera characters to animals, and even inanimate objects such as sushi and handbags. Currently presenting his "Young at Heart Art" exhibit, the Houstonian says, "When I first started, I guess I was choosing more naive subject matter, kind of like the monkeys in the trees and all that. I've just started getting into more sophisticated things like opera, astronomy and stuff like that." He's also been getting into commissioned portraits and paintings of celebrities like Samuel L. Jackson, Frank Sinatra Jr. and Reese Witherspoon. There's an opening reception from 6 to 8 p.m. on October 22. Regular viewing hours are 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. Mondays through Sundays. Through November 30. Dean's Credit Clothing/Montrose, 315 Fairview. For information, call 713-807-0301. Free.
Oct. 20-Nov. 30, 5 p.m.-2 a.m., 2009
