Mary Poppins

Look at your problems from a little higher up

It’s been almost half a century since the superest super nanny of them all taught us that “a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down.” Mary Poppins, that magical lady with the best bag of tricks ever, first appeared in books by P.L. Travers in the early 1930s before getting really famous in the 1964 Disney musical film. Of course, she’s got her own Broadway show now (who doesn’t) complete with tunes like “Chim Chim Cher-ee” and “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.” The touring company, making a stop in Houston, features the Broadway show’s original stars Ashley Brown as Mary and Gavin Lee as Bert, her chimney sweep pal. Learn that “troubles are never so bad when you can look at them from a little higher up” when Mary Poppins flies high at 8 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays, 2 and 8 p.m. Saturdays, and 1 and 6:30 p.m. Sundays. Through November 8. Hobby Center for the Performing Arts, 800 Bagby. For information, call 800-982-2787 or visit www.broadwayacrossamerica.com. $25.50 to $134.
Tuesdays-Sundays. Starts: Oct. 22. Continues through Nov. 8, 2009
