Las Manos Magicas, a folk art gallery, has repeatedly had one of the most spectacular Day of the Dead exhibits in the city. This year is no different with "Día de los Muertos: Contemporary and Traditional." Among the artists contributing drawings and sculptures of skeletons and other Day of the Dead symbols is Noah Edmundson, director of the Art Car Museum. Madeleine Crozat-Williams, owner of the gallery, says, "His is very contemporary stuff. Most of his work is watercolor and ink drawings, but I do have one sculptural piece by him. It's called Gulf War. It's motorized, and when it's [activated], one of the soldiers starts shooting the other one." The exhibit includes beaded skulls from Austinite Cathy Ortiz, figures by Josefina Aguilar and tiny skeletons and skulls from craftsmen in Oaxaca. Crozat-Williams also has a Day of the Dead altar dedicated to all the women who have been murdered in Juarez (the list of names is now 80 pages long). 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays.
