Prepare to be amazed and awed by luminous beauty Louise Brooks in G.W. Pabst's masterpiece, Pandora's Box (1928), part of KUHF's Silent Film Concert Series. Her innocent/amoral Lulu is one of cinema's most incandescent accomplishments. Although she took the world by storm with her performance, her independence, pride and deserved ego did not sit well with Paramount moguls, who, out of spite and incredible shortsightedness, destroyed her Hollywood career. But they inadvertently created a Brooks cult that remains potent to this day, while the executives' names have been long forgotten. Golden Arm Trio provides live music during the screening. 7 p.m. Discovery Green, 1500 McKinney. For information, call 713-400-7336 or visit www.discoverygreen.com. Free.
Fri., Nov. 6, 7 p.m., 2009
