Mojo Nixon, Dash Rip Rock, New Duncan ImperialsBy William Michael SmithPublished on November 03, 2009 at 1:26pmSomething tells me it's not the worldwide economic meltdown that has brought Mojo Nixon back out on the road in what he describes on his Web site as "unretirement." Something tells me that Country Dick Montana's favorite co-writer misses The Life, the party, the craziness, and that sitting around home in his underwear doing a weekday satellite-radio show just doesn't quite do it for him anymore, at least not all the time. No, despite his radio success, something tells me the man who skewers icons and cultural phenomena with equal relish thinks the world needs to hear "Debbie Gibson Is Pregnant With My Two-Headed Love Child," "Don Henley Must Die" and "Bring Me the Head of David Geffen" again to again have the absurdity of fame and pointless cultural baggage forced into their consciousness. Or he might just need the cash. And who better to pair with Nixon than the inane, profane Louisiana bar band from hell Dash Rip Rock, whose most famous tune, "Let's Go Smoke Some Pot," contains the same sense of parody and nonsense that fuels Nixon's work? Kitsch-loving Chicago psychobillies New Duncan Imperials round out the bill.
