Trey McIntyre Project

The former Houston Ballet choreographic associate shifts shape

Trey McIntyre, former choreographic associate with Houston Ballet, is returning to Houston with his own company, the Trey McIntyre Project, for one night. And what a night it will be. The evening features four ballets from the former Houstonian. On the ticket is Shape, for two women and a man. "It's a study in body shape," says McIntyre. "I use big red balloons to create new, absurd shapes. I set out to create a new vocabulary that used these strange shapes." There's also The Sun Road, commissioned by Wolf Trap National Park. "The piece focuses on global climate change and how that's affecting the park, how we're losing it." Another piece, Like a Samba, is set to songs by Brazilian jazz star Astrud Gilberto, and (serious)has music by Henry Cowell. See why The Washington Post called McIntyre's work "fresh and forward thinking choreography." 8 p.m. Wortham Center's Cullen Theater, 501 Texas. For information, call 713-227-4772 or visit www.spahouston.org. $22 to $57.
Fri., Nov. 13, 8 p.m., 2009
