Haute Texan Tacos

More than just a taco truck.

Jason Jones has had a long and distinguished culinary career. He is a Cordon Bleu-trained chef and has worked in Los Angeles, Seattle, Austin and Houston, where he's from. He has taught the culinary arts, designed menus and designed kitchen layouts. He's even cooked for bigwigs like George Bush, Dick Cheney and the guy Cheney accidentally shot, Harry Whittington. Now he's running his own gourmet mobile truck, called Haute Texan Tacos (2306 Brazos, 832-866-8052), which you will find in the parking lot of Little Woodrow's in Midtown on Thursdays through Saturdays.

"After 21 years of being locked in a kitchen, it was time to get out and meet the people I cook for," said Jones. "We're making everything fresh and from scratch, like our salsas, our fish tacos, carne guisada or pulled pork tacos," Jones said. Dish tried these three dishes along with a stuffed avocado, and found them all to be extremely tasty, including the tomatillo salsa and Jones's red sauce. Jones will also bring his mobile food truck to other locations for special events.

Don't let the bastards wear you down boys. I love what you are doing and will always be back for more good food. I haven't really spoken with you guys, but you always seem to be having a good time. I'm the girl with the Irsih accent.

Great food. Never had anything like the fried avocado. It was delicious. They always seem to have good music coming out of there also. As far as nice, the were very talkative to me and seemed to want to earn my business by asking if I lived in the area or do I work downtown. Pleasant enough guy. Have been back, will be back again. Oh, and I won't park in front of your trailer... Keep it up guys.

I recently visited Houston and my cousin dragged me over to "The Truck". Amazing food with great portions! The owner was nice to me and even cracked a few jokes. Keep up the great work and keep on playing the Pixies! I wish we had a taco truck like yours in NYC.

And one more thing, what you send out you usually get back from me. If you have an attitude, then usually I do. Maybe they will start calling me the Taco Nazi! No Taco for you! Just kidding....... Maybe you caught me on an off day or parked right in front of my trailer.
