Former Ginger Man bartender Hilary York has been in Austin for over a decade now and, at least part time, pursuing a music career. She recently released her second album, In the Dark, a follow-up to 2006's The Moon. The album features some of Austin's most sophisticated session players like Saturday headliner Ian Moore's multi-instrumental side man Kullen Fuchs, who also co-produced In the Dark with York. Falling in a nifty slot somewhere between folk, jazz and alt-country, York's introspective songs are filled with a cross-section of New Age-y angst and regret: "The future's got me thinking of the past, this isn't the last time / It doesn't matter now, I can only forgive you / But I'll never understand why you put me up so high / Just to dismiss me." Call in the psychiatrists, Hilary York is back in town.
