What if early on, human evolution had gotten a little nudge from some alien race? Say, in the form of a black monolith? That's the premise of Stanley Kubrick's landmark science-fiction film 2001: A Space Odyssey. The story begins when a group of cavemen discover the monolith, which sparks the next step in their evolution -the discovery of tools. Thousands of years later, technology-laden humankind has made it to the moon, where, uh oh, they discover another black monolith. But what's the next step in human evolution? To blend with computers? Or to shut them down? 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 5 p.m. Sunday. Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, 1001 Bissonnet. For information, call 713-639-7515 or visit www.mfah.org. $6 to $7.
