Cosmic Celluloid: 2001: A Space Odyssey

What if early on, human evolution had gotten a little nudge from some alien race? Say, in the form of a black monolith? That's the premise of Stanley Kubrick's landmark science-fiction film 2001: A Space Odyssey. The story begins when a group of cavemen discover the monolith, which sparks the next step in their evolution -the discovery of tools. Thousands of years later, technology-laden humankind has made it to the moon, where, uh oh, they discover another black monolith. But what's the next step in human evolution? To blend with computers?
