You'll be kissing the cook after Big Night, a tasty little movie from Joseph Tropiano and actor/director/writer Stanley Tucci (ER, The Devil Wears Prada, Julie & Julia). It's the 1950s and two Italian brothers, Primo (Tony Shalhoub, TV's Monk) and Secondo (Tucci), run a second-rate restaurant in New Jersey. Primo's the chef with integrity among customers who just want more starch, while Secondo's the suave maitre d' carrying on with a rival restaurateur's wife. Their American dream hasn't come true and seems a long way off. If only bandleader Louis Prima would grace their establishment with a visit, their fame and fortune will be assured. So the mother of all big meals is prepared for the big night, while loyalty and brotherly love get stir-fried, battered and sautéed. This is delicious fare, picked and introduced by Voice's executive chef, Michael Kramer, for the Movies Houstonians Love: Meals on Reels film series. You'll relish lines like "Sometimes spaghetti likes to be alone," long after the film is finished. 7 p.m. Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, 1001 Bissonnet. For information, call 713-639-7515 or visit www.mfah.org/films. $6 to $7.
Mon., Nov. 30, 7 p.m., 2009
