Oddball gonzo video journalist Paul H.O., creator of the former cable show Gallery Beat, was a D-list artist in New York's art world. When he met, wooed and became the boyfriend of legendary photographer Cindy Sherman — the undisputed A-list critic's darling — poor Paul crashed and burned, and fell even lower on the alphabet scale. "I've sort of been swallowed up by the Cindy Sherman giant thing," he moans onscreen. "Did I marry Madonna, or something? What's his name? Whatever happened to him?" Paul does what any self-respecting videographer would do: He makes a confessional documentary about his now former relationship. The revealing work, Guest of Cindy Sherman, dissects the bruised, overinflated egos that haunt the galleries in SoHo and gives us a worm's-eye view of celebrity, high-finance art and what it's like to be the ultimate sidekick. (Case in point: To save their foundering relationship, Paul takes Cindy to his therapist. The doctor takes her as a client and dumps him.) 7 p.m. Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, 1001 Bissonnet. For information, call 713-639-7531 or visit www.mfah.org/films. $6 to $7.
Fri., Dec. 4, 7 p.m., 2009
