The Best Christmas Pageant Ever

The six Herdman kids are pretty awful - they have rude, crude and unruly down to a science in the kid's stage comedy The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. Much to everyone's dismay, the rug-rat six-pack shows up at church one day (they find out snacks are handed out during Sunday school) and stumble into rehearsals for the annual Christmas pageant. Yikes!

The Herdmans only know bits and pieces of the Christmas story, but are determined to put their own spin on things - like changing the title of the show (they suggest nixing Christmas Pageant and replacing it with Revenge at Bethlehem). They also want to add King Herod to the cast ("You mean he's out to kill the baby, and he isn't even in the play?"). It also seems like a good idea to interject a few comic-book sound effects (one of them shouts, "Shazaaaammmmm!" to introduce the angel that came to Mary), and switch out the gifts the wise men bring (according to the Herdmans, it’s gold, incense and cigars). Will the Herdmans run roughshod over the holiday show? Or could their suggestions help make this the best Christmas pageant ever? 1 p.m. University of Houston, 4800 Calhoun.
