The Sound of Music

TUTS sings, "Do, re, mi too"

Here it is — Rodgers and Hammerstein's The Sound of Music, otherwise known as your long-awaited break from Nutcrackers and Scrooges alike. Offered by Theatre Under the Stars, the show about the amazingly talented Von Trapp family (with the kids played by local actors) and their lovely and equally talented nanny-turned-stepmom, might be the sweetest musical group-hug offered anywhere this season. Lauren Lovell, public relations manager for TUTS, calls the musical "a great family story, one that multiple generations can enjoy." Only a real Scrooge wouldn't love a show filled with lyrics that celebrate such favorite things as "whiskers on kittens" and the girlish moment when one is "Sixteen Going on Seventeen." 8 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, 2 and 8 p.m. Saturdays, 2 and 7:30 p.m. Sundays. Through December 20. Hobby Center for the Performing Arts, 800 Bagby. For information, call 713-558-8887 or visit www.tuts.org. $24 to $117.50.
Tuesdays-Sundays. Starts: Dec. 8. Continues through Dec. 20, 2009
