A Twisted Holiday

The Gay Men's Chorus of Houston sings holiday tunes in a whole new way

When you get Gay Men's Chorus of Houston Artistic Director Linus Lerner talking about the holiday show A Twisted Holiday, he can't stop himself from laughing. "The show is based on the idea that we have to listen to holiday songs every year, so let's...play around with them." For example, after the chorus treats the audience to a gorgeously traditional version of "Home for the Holiday," the audience will get to giggle along to "Homo for the Holidays." After the sweet notes of "O Tannenbaum," the chorus stops and wonders, says Lerner, "Have I lost my marbles? I'm singing to a Christmas tree!" There will be more serious moments as well. The lovely "Another Christmas" is a dedication to those who have passed away from HIV/AIDS and a celebration of HIV-positive folks who continue to live with the disease. Expect some laughs, some tears and some good music. 7:30 p.m. Jones Hall, 615 Louisiana. For information, call 713-521-7464 or visit www.bayoucityperformingarts.org. $22 to $55.
