It'll be years before you and the kids really share tastes in film, so an opportunity for mutual enjoyment like The Best of the New York International Children's Film Festival is a rare pleasure. The animated shorts featured are the kind of children's entertainment that adults can appreciate. The dozen offerings, presented by Aurora Picture Show and intended for ages three and up, are charming, visually appealing and fast-paced enough to hold even the most finicky tot's attention for an hour. The New Species, a beautifully executed stop-motion short from Latvia, features some young bugs trying to rescue their parents from an elderly entomologist. 7 Days of the Week is an American cut-out-style video from They Might Be Giants' children's album/DVD that extols the pleasures of not going to work. English film Breaking the Mould manages to tell the poignant life story of an adventurous apple in one minute, throwing in a humorous reference or two and an Indie Lite soundtrack that's geared as much toward the grown-ups as toward the youngsters. 4 p.m. Spacetaker Winter Street Studios, 2101 Winter Street.
