Stephen Hunter: I, Sniper

Stephen Hunter gives fans a trinity of sharpshooters

If there's one person who can help you shake off all the sentimentality and nostalgia of the holiday season, it's Bob Lee Swagger - the ass-kicking hero of six thrillers by Stephen Hunter. Swagger's on the case again in I, Sniper, which Hunter will discuss and sign today at Murder by the Book. In this latest installment, Swagger, a former sniper, is called in to help the FBI investigate the deaths of four famous '60s-era radicals who've been gunned down. With the FBI on his trail, the suspect, a noted Vietnam-era sniper, apparently commits suicide, seemingly gift-wrapping the case. But Swagger thinks it's all a little too picture-perfect and, after some digging, determines there's actually another sniper at large (we're up to three snipers now, for those of you counting at home). The trouble is, this one's coming after Swagger. 6:30 p.m. 2342 Bissonnet. For information, call 713-524-8597 or visit www.murderbooks.com. Free.
