Wonder of the World New Year's Eve Performance

Ring in 2010 with Theatre Southwest

All dressed up and nowhere to go on New Year's Eve? Theatre Southwest is offering one of the best deals in the city, with dinner and a night of zany theater in the form of David Lindsay-Abaire's wacky comedy Wonder of the World. The play, which continues without the New Year's Eve extras through January 23, starred Sarah Jessica Parker when it premiered at the Manhattan Theatre Club back in 2001. Here at Theatre Southwest, Stacy A. Spaeth takes the roll of Cass, "a tall glass of bubbly cider," as the character calls herself. Cass abandons her bad marriage and sets off to find herself. She's got a whole list of things she wants to accomplish in her life, which includes getting a sidekick, wearing a blond wig, learning Swedish and, of course, finding her soul mate. And since this is a comedy, she meets a crew of crazies who go along for the ride.

Plenty of New Year's Eve hoopla accompanies the show. According to Mimi Holloway, Theatre Southwest's artistic director, "This is the 15th year we've done this, and we go whole hog. There's a complete buffet dinner...along with dancing, horns and hats..." 7:30 p.m. Theatre Southwest, 8944-A Clarkcrest. For a full schedule of the remaining performances, call 713-661-9505 or visit www.theatresouthwest.org. $50.
