It took most of the fall and countless e-mails and phone calls, but the staff of the Art Car Museum has more than succeeded in tracking down and rounding up works by the abstract painter Ron Hoover, a local favorite who passed away last summer. For the expansive Ron Hoover: "A Retrospective," the museum has gathered 150 pieces from all stages of Hoover's career, mostly watercolors and oils demonstrating his signature pointillist technique. But far more apparent in the works is his well-known passion for advocacy, seen in commentary-style pieces taking on corporate fat cats, dictators and, closer to home, reckless home developers in Houston. "It'll really show his social consciousness," says the museum's Mary Forbes. "He was very socially involved. His concern was the human condition." Opening reception 7 p.m. January 9. Regular viewing hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays. Through March 5. 140 Heights Blvd. For information, call 713-861-5526 or visit www.artcarmuseum.com. Free.
Wednesdays-Sundays. Starts: Jan. 9. Continues through March 5, 2010
