The Honeymoon Period Is Officially Over

Theatre LaB delivers a new work by Gemma Wilcox

Gerald LaBita, producing artistic director of Theatre LaB, knows a good thing when he sees it. "Fifteen years ago, we were the second theater ever to produce The Vagina Monologues with Eve Ensler; now she's a multimillionaire!" he happily boasts. Now he's offering Houstonians a chance to witness his newest discovery, Gemma Wilcox. In her show, The Honeymoon Period Is Officially Over, making its Houston premiere here, the British actress, who's "been doing the fringe circuit for four or five years," says LaBita, tells the story of "a young woman whose marriage has dissolved. She's at a crossroads, trying to decide what she's going to do next in her life." Along the way, she meets up with all sorts of characters, including an old boyfriend. She plays all 20 of them in the one-woman show, some of which include "chickens, a fire flame and a rodent, I think," says LaBita. "She's very theatrical, very entertaining." If LaBita's track record is any indication, we should all be standing in line, waiting to get our tickets now. 8 p.m. January 12, 14, 15, 16, and 5 p.m. January 17. Through January 17. 1706 Alamo. For information, call 713-868-7516 or visit www.theaterlabhouston.com. $25.
