Wonderland

The Alley Theatre gives us a different kind of rabbit hole

“The show is most definitely not Alice in Wonderland or Through The Looking Glass - it's not an adaptation of a Lewis Carroll story - it is proudly and totally unfaithful to the books - and that's clear from the outset," co-author and director Gregory Boyd told us about his latest endeavor, Wonderland: Alice’s New Musical Adventure, which premiered in Florida. It’s easy to understand why the latest show from composer Frank Wildhorn (Jekyll & Hyde, The Scarlet Pimpernel) would prompt a gamut of reactions, from enchantment to befuddlement. In this contemporary stage retelling, Alice is married, near divorce and estranged from her daughter, whom she chases down the elevator into a strange mirror world where her acquaintances topside become the famous characters down below. 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, 8 p.m. Fridays, 2:30 and 8 p.m. Saturdays, 2:30 and 7:30 p.m. Sundays. Through February 14. 615 Texas Ave. For information, call 713-220-5700 or visit www.alleytheatre.org. $21 to $61.
