The husband-and-wife team of Fred and Toody Cole wed in 1967 and began appearing in various garage and punk bands together until the rise of Dead Moon in the mid-'80s. Those Clackamas, Oregon-based garage-sludgers found themselves lumped into the region's nascent grunge movement by the time they released their fifth album, Thirteen Off My Hook, in 1990. A brief clip in the documentary Hype opened even more doors for the band when they appeared amongst groups like Nirvana, Tad and the Mono Men. Dead Moon would go on to record 11 more albums until disbanding in 2006. Less than a year later, the Coles surfaced with the biting, slightly smoother Pierced Arrows. The band signed to hipster-lord label Vice in November and is currently touring ahead of forthcoming LP Descending Shadows, which should hit the streets next month.
