"Poly-Lawn-Dale"

Ned Dodington aims to sprout up ideas about man vs. nature

Ned Dodington's installation "Poly-Lawn-Dale" was inspired by social anthropologist Paul Rabinow's phrase "nature has never been natural." To create the piece, he filled nylon stockings with grass pods and hooked them up to an IV bag full of growing solution. It's an inventive take on Chia pets and a way for the artist to share his take on the way we view nature. "[I am] pushing what is perceived to be natural and artificial...through a sort of extreme, kind of bizarre conglomeration...to show how absurd the whole distinction is," he says. Opening reception is 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. January 22. Regular viewing hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, and noon to 5 p.m. Saturdays. Through February 27. Lawndale Art Center, 4912 Main. For information, call 713-528-5858 or visit www.lawndaleartcenter.org. Free.
Mondays-Saturdays. Starts: Jan. 22. Continues through Feb. 27, 2010
