Soul Night 2

Get your fill of Marvin Gaye and Tina Turner at the Aurora Picture Show's funky flashback

Dust off your afro, rearrange that Jheri curl and get your groove on, cause it's time for Soul Night 2. Brought to you by Aurora Picture Show, this funky flashback from the '60s and '70s is all about sweet vintage performance footage from the likes of music legends James Brown, Marvin Gaye, Sly & the Family Stone, the great Tina Turner and, of course, Miss Aretha Franklin (way before she became the Queen of Soul). It's Detroit's shining moment, when Motown went universal and every singer was influenced by the earthy new style. These new artists made sweat acceptable. Northwest Film Forum's Peter Lucas (who will be in attendance) has again assembled quite a show that encourages dancing in the aisles at the Eldorado Ballroom, Houston's historic "Home of Happy Feet." 7 p.m. 2310 Elgin. For information, call 713-868-2101 or visit www.aurorapictureshow.org. Free to $7.
Sat., Jan. 23, 7 p.m., 2010
