Voyeur

Clare Dyson's work is boxed up and full of holes

You've heard of outside the box. Clare Dyson wants you looking insidethe box. That's where she's placed two dancers for today's performance of Voyeur. Audience members take their places around a large wooden box at various peepholes to choose their point of view for the modern-dance piece. Some holes are at seat level, others at head height; some have binoculars, and others have headphones that play the dancers' scripted thoughts. "And so the audience move, exchange headphones, choose to watch through binoculars and alter their viewpoint for a different perspective," says a description of the performance on Dyson's Web site. "They choose how much they want to take and whatthey want to know." So the performance is twofold. As the dancers explore intimacy and isolation in their space, so do the watchers from outside the box. 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday. DiverseWorks, 1117 East Freeway. For information, call 713-335-3445 or visit www.diverseworks.org. Pay what you want.
