Topdog/Underdog

Black Box Series makes its Houston debut

Suzan-Lori Parks's Pulitzer Prize-winning Topdog/Underdog is the fast-paced story of two African-American brothers who have been pitted against each other since childhood. Lincoln is an ex-hustler who works as an Abraham Lincoln impersonator at an arcade (we kid you not), and Booth is a petty thief who wishes he had Lincoln's con-game skills. (Booth, by the way, has a gun — Lincoln, Booth, a gun, can you tell where this is going?) Topdog/Underdog is the premiere presentation of the new theater company Black Box Series, which explores the African-American experience. 7:30 p.m. Friday, 8 p.m. Saturday, and 3 p.m. Sunday. Ensemble Theatre, 3535 Main. For information, call 832-618-8931 or visit www.blackboxseries.com. $20.
Fri., Feb. 5, 7:30 p.m.; Sat., Feb. 6, 8 p.m.; Sun., Feb. 7, 3 p.m., 2010
