Three excellent films from three different decades are on the schedule this weekend for the UCLA Film & Television Archive's Festival of Preservation, making its first-ever stop in Houston. John Cassavetes's 1974 film A Woman Under the Influence is set for Friday. Gena Rowlands is the mother at the center of a working-class family in trouble. Peter Falk is her husband in what's been called Cassavetes's tour de force.
Saturday it's Fritz Lang's 1948 film Secret Beyond the Door, with Joan Bennett starring as a woman who thinks her husband is trying to drive her insane. And Sunday it's Joseph Losey's 1951 film The Prowler, with Evelyn Keyes as a lonely housewife who gets involved with the cop who responds to her report of a Peeping Tom.
The festival continues through the end of the month with other classic films from the UCLA Film and Television Archive, including several silents. 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 5 p.m. Sunday.
