Artists for Haiti Benefit

The Houston arts community responds to the Haitian people's need for help

Like millions of people, local artist Katherine Houston watched television news coverage of the recent disaster in Haiti. She saw medical personnel and rescue workers rushing to the island to offer assistance. "It made me wonder what I could do to help," she said via press materials. "It just made sense to use my skills as an artist to raise money." The Artists for Haiti Benefit was her answer. Joining her, with 100 percent of all sales going to the relief efforts in Haiti, are Cookie Ashton, Maria Hughes, Ray Phillips and several other emerging and established artists. "All of the artists are so generous," Houston says. "They want to do what they can to make a difference." 6 to 9 p.m. Laura Rathe Fine Art, 2707 Colquitt.
