"I still see, just not with my eyes," says teenage Meagan, one of four students at the Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired highlighted by director Keith Maitland in his revealing documentary The Eyes of Me. What we soon realize is that teens will be teens, sighted or not. The Austin foursome care deeply about being unique, but they also desperately desire to fit in with the crowd. They want independence but need guidance. Maitland explains, "The moment I started working with the amazing kids in the film, I realized that blind teens are still just teens, and they like things that all teenagers like in typical, teenaged, heaping qualities."
