Former Horseshoe front man Greg Wood hasn't done a public gig in over five years and, according to Wood, his performance with Chuck Savage's Whiskey Boat outfit at the Continental Wednesday night doesn't really count. "It's not much of a gig, really, [I'm] just going to do a few songs; it'll mostly be Chuck's gig," says Wood. "But I'm trying to shake out the cobwebs so I can start thinking about real gigs. And we've still got a lot of work to do on the new record — lots." Wood, whose Horseshoe opus King of the World was one of the top Houston roots-rock albums of the '90s, can dampen expectations all he wants, but anytime this prolific, mercurial writer sallies forth to present new work — or even talks about a new recording — lots of people will be interested. It will be good to see him back up on the boards, and entertaining to see what new tricks are in his artistic grab bag.
