Cirque Dreams: Illumination

Like the Cirque du Soleil shows they so closely resemble, Neil Goldberg's Cirque Productions performances are fantastic, multimedia affairs. As Cirque Dreams: Illuminationperformer David Poznanter tells it, "The company combines European acrobatics with an American Broadway feeling." Poznanter should know. He spent time in Europe, where he honed his skills spinning a six-foot metal hoop as well as juggling.

Cirque Dreams: Illuminationtakes place on a subway platform. Poznanter, who plays the Train Engineer in the story, says, "The show is about ordinary people doing extraordinary things in any American city. It's got a hip, street-smart feeling." The 28 artists from 11 different countries play construction workers, sailors and painters; a journalist narrates the story through song, accompanied by a live saxophone player. "It has a very intimate feeling," says Poznanter, who's been traveling with the show for six months, adding that the circus transforms these everyday folks into something "spectacular and magical." 8 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays; 2 and 8 p.m. Saturdays; 2 and 7:30 p.m. Sundays.
