February Artful Thursday: The Art of Indian Cuisine

The rainbow of spices used in this type of Asian cooking make it among the spiciest in the world

According to Suneeta Vaswani, a leading authority on Indian food, "We live in a 'food without borders' world." At today's installment of Artful Thursday, she'll bring the food and the art of her country together in a lecture entitled The Art of Indian Cuisine. The author of the Complete Book of Indian Cooking: 350 Recipes from the Regions of India, Vaswani will discuss the contribution of the Mughals to the country's cuisine (they introduced saffron, cream and nuts). She'll also talk about the food offered to the culture's deities, such as Ganesh and Shiva Nataraja, both seen in the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston's new Arts of India Gallery. 6:30 p.m. 1001 Bissonnet.
