Get the whole story about American painter John Singer Sargent from Richard Ormond, director of the Sargent Catalogue Raisonné Project and, as it happens, the artist's great-nephew. During today's John Singer Sargent: A Personal View presentation, Ormond uses family documents and tales handed down from generation to generation to piece together the little-known story of Sargent, his personal life and his art. Considered the greatest American portraitist of his generation, Sargent lived much of his life in Europe. He carved out early success in Paris before moving on to fame in London, then eventually earning American patronage.
