Will Eno is no ordinary playwright. Theater critic Charles Isherwood called him the Samuel Beckett of the Jon Stewart generation, and Edward Albee said he is one of the finest playwrights he's come across in years. The Believer magazine quotes Eno as saying, "I like seeing people suffer under bright lighting. I like hearing people in pain in rooms with good acoustics. Everything gets so muffled and dim, in real life, normally, so you can never really tell what the problem is." In his The Flu Season, presented by Mildred's Umbrella Theater Company, there should be lots of suffering. According to Artistic Director Jennifer Decker, the story is about "a young couple who have their entire relationship in this mental institution. They're getting advice from an older couple who happen to be the doctor and nurse at the institution. They want to cure the young couple of this whole young-love thing." The darkly funny show is being directed by Matt Huff, who did a fantastic job at Stages this season with A Picasso. Hmm, fresh new playwright meets wildly talented director - sounds promising. 8 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Mondays. Through March 13. Midtown Art Center, 3414 La Branch.
