Kevin Smith, epic nerd and director of films like Chasing Amy and Dogma, recently made news for being too fat to be seated on a Southwest Airlines flight (the airline has rules about not seating passengers it deems too rotund). When the fat ass who couldn't fly (if you've made it this far, you probably know that's a Mallratsreference) appears in person today at House of Blues to give a general-interest talk and Q&A session, it may be worth asking about the situation and the Twitter-spurred press blitz. When he's allowed to expound, as he did on a recent episode of the podcast SModcast, he's got plenty of personal insight and amusing stories to offer. (On his customer service experience with Southwest, the former convenience store employee says, "I'm the guy who made Clerks - but I was never thatclerk.") Smith also recently finished up Cop Out (original title: Two Dicks), a buddy movie starring Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan, so he should have no shortage of material to draw on for the engagement. 8:30 p.m. 1204 Caroline. For information, call 888-402-5837 or visit www.houseofblues.com. $45 to $60.
Fri., March 5, 8:30 p.m., 2010
