"McKay Otto"

New works by this painter take you to another realm

"Beauty." "Love." "Ethereal." "Translucent." These are the words Ñ among other, similarly lofty ones Ñ that painter McKay Otto uses to describe his new works, on display now at the "McKay Otto" exhibit at Wade Wilson Art. Otto, who trained at the University of Texas, the Glassell School and other institutions, indulges seriously in the power of the abstract to transport the viewer into pleasant meditation, of course, but also, perhaps, into something like the great beyond. "When we are alert," he writes in his artist's statement, "these paintings become windows (portals) for us into the formless." His mixed-media paintings are pale, soft-colored geometric shapes that resemble sunsets, or calm seas, or, indeed, some otherworldly space where everything is peaceful and beautiful. You can decide how far to let them take you. 4411 Montrose. 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays. Through March 27. For information, call 713-521-2977 or visit www.wadewilsonart.com. Free.
Tuesdays-Saturdays. Starts: Feb. 19. Continues through March 27, 2010
