DJ Allan will play from 9 p.m. to1 a.m. The Goose's Acre will be featuring shot and drink specials all day long. And you can't forget the free pizza buffet at midnight. This is a great way to start your St. Paddy's week.

Celebrate St. Patrick's Day with the St. Patrick's Day Queen Contest at Griff's. Judging will be based on natural beauty, poise, attire and personality. All contestants will have to apply; check-in starts at 5:30 p.m.

It'll be half-price shepherd's pies until 6 p.m. and $4 Tuaca Bombs all day. In addition, the pub welcomes the James Reese Band (10 p.m. to 2 a.m.). This is a great funk, soul, rock and jam band that plays at Big Easy and Warehouse Live in Houston.

Griff's will hold a greater-Houston-area Irish open golf tournament, better known as Beer, Boobs, Babes and Balls, at Cypresswood Golf Course. There will be a noon tee time and a shotgun start. Griff's will award trophies and prizes for first, second and third places as well as special prizes for Closest to Hole and Longest Drive. You can also come early for a putting contest at 11 a.m. The individual entry fee is $135, and all participants must apply.

Midtown's getting a jump on things with its St. Patrick's Day Bash, which will go from 5 to 9 p.m. The party will feature $3 well drinks, $4 premium drinks and a complimentary cafe. Entrance is free.

The pub holds a Sham'rock' Party where patrons will be wearing green and drinking green beer. DJ Allan will be playing from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. for your dancing pleasure, and rumor has it there may be a visit from some Jäger girls with a shot block.

Join in for the 13th Annual Irish Stew, Chili and Chicken Cook-off from noon to 7 p.m. Each team will consist of six cooks. Check-in is between 9 and 11 a.m. Participants will supply everything they may need, including propane, and prepare the food, including three gallons of stew or chili and one whole chicken, at Griff's. The entry fee is $15 for one item or $30 for all three. Judging begins at 4 p.m. for chicken, 4:45 p.m. for stew and 5:30 p.m. for chili. The prizes will include: for first place, 12 festival passes and $25 worth of drink tickets for St. Paddy's Day; for second place, six festival passes for St. Paddy's Day; and, for third place, three festival passes for St. Paddy's Day. All participants must apply.

Celebrate "Hair for Charity" Day at the Goose's Acre. Pantene Beautiful Lengths begins at 2 p.m. on the patio. Pantene has partnered with the American Cancer Society to ensure women with cancer can get wigs made from real hair, free of charge if needed. The hair donated must be eight inches long. St. Baldrick's begins at 4:30 p.m. on the patio. Volunteers will shave their heads in solidarity with kids fighting cancer, while family and friends give generously. If you would like to volunteer to shave your head and drum up some sponsorship money, please register at www.stbaldricks.org.

Celebrate with an Irish Whiskey Dinner at 7 p.m. There'll be a delicious four-course meal created by Executive Chef Cory Garrison, accompanied by a tasting featuring five Irish whiskeys. $45 per person includes tax and gratuity.

The Fourth Annual Sexy Kilt Contest starts at 8 p.m. That means it's time to put on that man-skirt; anyone who wants to compete must contact Brandi at brandi@thegoosesacre.com or call 281-466-1502 to register. On the day of the event, contestants must be present no later than 7:30 p.m. in order to register. Cash and prizes will be awarded to winners of the first, second and third places. The Dead Rabbits Irish Rock Band will play during and after the contest.
