Hot Plate: Burger, Italian-Style

The Dom Burger at Laurenzo's Grille

The mix of a traditional burger with Italian ingredients makes for a very interesting combination of flavors in the Dom Burger ($12), named after Head Chef Domenic Laurenzo at Laurenzo's Grille (4412 Washington, 713-880-5111). A hand-formed patty cooked to your specification comes in a house-made black-sesame-encrusted bun smeared with brown mustard and a spicy chili mayo. The patty's heaped with two slices of fresh mozzarella, a slice of tomato, arugula (which adds a nice bite) and a slice of hot capocollo (which also adds a spicy note, along with some roasted red peppers). The result is a monster of a burger that, once picked up, you cannot put down again for fear it will fall apart.
