Opera in the Heights mounts one of the opera world's most loved works

There may not be a more romantic homage to the working-class artist than Giacomo Puccini's La Bohème. The popular opera, set in 1830 Paris, tells twin stories, one about a fiery love affair between the penniless painter Marcello and his sexy sweetheart Musetta, the other a heartbreaking tale of love and loss between the ragamuffin poet Rodolfo and his exquisitely frail lover Mimi. The gorgeous score is ridiculously passionate (it could make a young woman swoon).

Opera in the Heights Stage Director Brian Byrnes says the relatively small venue of Lambert Hall is ideal for the show. The performers "don't have to push to fill the space," he says. "They can connect to the moment-by-moment emotion of the piece, so it becomes very personal."
