The latest work by Edward Hirsch, The Living Fire: New and Selected Poems, was released less than a month ago and has already won ardent fans. With pointed lines like, "Forgive me, faith, for never having any," it's easy to see why. His narratives discuss relationships (often his own, failed or successful), the redemptive quality of art, and insomnia: "The blue-rimmed edge / of outer dark, those crossroads / where we meet the dead."
