Since 2008, Record Store Day has become almost a national holiday for vinyl fanatics. The day centers on independent record stores throughout the world, and helps encourage people to go discover music at their local brick-and-mortar outlets instead of iTunes or other downloading sites. The day brings new special-edition pressings in the stores as well, with collectors clamoring to get their hands on the limited wax. Cactus Music, arguably one of Houston’s best indie stores, does RSD right with deals throughout the store and bands playing on their small corner stage all day long. Today, catch the indie-doom of sIngs, the bluesy grime of Grandfather Child and garage kings the Freddie Steady 5. As always, shows at Cactus are free to the public and Saint Arnold’s is on hand with free beer.
