After a Houston hiatus of more than two decades they finally broke last year, the Krayolas are making up for lost time — Saturday will be their third trip here since last summer. Brothers Hector and David Saldana's San Antonio band isn't letting any grass grow in the studio either. Barely a year after Long Leaf Pine (No Smack Gum), which brought national attention from Little Steven and NPR for its song "Corrido (Twelve Heads in a Bag)," the Krayolas are back on the shelves with Americano (Box Records). Although the band remains rooted in Tex-Mex garage-rock and psychedelic '60s pop, welcoming Texas Tornadoes Augie Meyers and Flaco Jimenez for guest turns, Americano is more stylistically varied than its predecessor. Alongside chugging opener "Exit/Salida" and the spicy "Fruteria," "Piso Diez" delves into Bob Dylan's subterranean homesick blues, while New Wave ballad "Home" recalls Elvis Costello's softer side and "Show a Little Kindness" closes out the album on a brass-band swell that's equal parts Sgt. Pepper's and New Orleans second-line.
