Catastrophic Theatre's Big! Bang! Catastrophe!

Jim Parsons is a local boy done good - and doing good

BODY: Jim Parsons -- the Emmy-nominated star who plays Sheldon in the CBS hit comedy The Big Band Theory! -- is no ordinary local boy done good. "He's not only a tremendous talent, but he's also incredibly likable," says Jason Nodler, artistic director of Catastrophic Theatre. And Nodler should know. He directed Parsons in 12 plays, many of them right here in Houston, before the actor hit the big time. Parsons clinched his good-guy status when he agreed to be the guest of honor at Big! Bang! Catastrophe!,a fundraising event for the Catastrophic Theatre. Of course, rubbing elbows with a national star isn't the only reason to show up for the event. "There's going to be lots of great food, lots of great booze, and our band will be playing TV theme-show music all night long," says Nodler. "Our parties are usually just a little bit wilder than the usual gala. People tend to get rather drunk at these things, and there's always a lot of wild dancing." 7 p.m. Houston Studios, 707 Walnut. For information, call 713-522-2723 or visit www.catastrophictheatre.com. $50 to $500.
