The renowned Emerson String Quartet makes a stop at Rice University. During today's performance, violinists Eugene Drucker and Philip Setzer, who exchange first chair, are joined by violist Lawrence Dutton and cellist David Finckel, to perform a program that includes selections from Dvorak and Janácek. Last season the Quartet performed more than 90 concerts around the world, including stops at Kennedy Center and Queen Elizabeth Hall. The ensemble has collected eight Grammy Awards (two for Best Classical album), three Gramophone Awards and the prestigious Avery Fisher Prize. This concert marks the 22nd time the dynamic group performs for the Houston Friends of Music, and they'll be here next year to celebrate the Friends' 50th anniversary. 8 p.m. Rice University, 6100 Main.
