Brooklyn trio Awesome Color is signed to Sonic Youth co-fronter Thurston Moore's boutique label Ecstatic Peace, if you need any other concrete reason to be at Mango's tonight beyond a stellar catalog that ambles from Stooges-style death jams to funky-ass Comets on Fire-esque freakouts. In any other age, AC would have been touring with the likes of Pentagram and Blue Cheer — they rock sludge the way it was meant to be rocked, forgoing the trappings of most modern indie-metal. The band's newest LP, Massa Hypnos, just hit the street earlier this month.
