When you give your book a title as long as My Fair Lazy: One Reality Television Addict's Attempt to Discover If Not Being a Dumb Ass Is the New Black, or, A Culture-Up Manifesto, it better be worth reading. Author Jen Lancasterbegan her career as a blogger discussing her unpleasant introduction to the unemployment line after a life of spa visits. After some success there, she began writing novels a la Candace Bushnell. In fact, it was a during a radio interview with Bushnell that Lancaster had the "Ah ha!" moment that led to My Fair Lazy. During her conversation with Bushnell, Lancaster admitted she didn’t know whether Baudelaire was a kind of sushi or a Pilates move. (Actually, it was French writer Charles Baudelaire.) The incident sent Lancaster into low-culture detox and on a mission to educate herself about high culture (poetry, food and wine pairings, modern dance and theater), all of it chronicled in Lazy. 7 p.m. Borders, 3025 Kirby.
