Love & Marriage, Texas Style

A rose is a rose, y'all

Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew has been adapted to a variety of settings and times, but the Houston Family Arts Center's Love & Marriage, Texas Style might be unique. Houston playwright/actor/director Elaine Edstrom reset the story in Tomball and reworked the dialogue, not only making it modern but filling it with Texas idioms (she calls it Texanese). "I love Shakespeare," Edstrom says via press materials. "But it has always bothered me when his plays were transported to other time periods...and his 16th-century language remained the same. Who in American history ever spoke...iambic pentameter?" 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, 3 p.m. May 29. Through May 29. 10760 Grant Road. For information, call 281-685-6374 or visit www.-houstonfac.com. $12 to $16.
Fridays, Saturdays. Starts: May 7. Continues through May 29, 2010
