When you've helped launch the careers of artists like Jasper Johns and James Rosenquist, it's safe to say you're pretty damn influential. Iconic New York City gallery owner Leo Castelli, the subject of Annie Cohen-Solal's brand-new biography Leo & His Circle: The Life of Leo Castelli, spent a career as America's foremost postwar art dealer. As if Castelli's bringing American art to new international heights didn't provide enough material, Cohen-Solal also goes in depth discussing the gallerist's early life, including his boyhood in Europe and his family's bid to flee the Holocaust.
