CIrque du Soleil: Alegría

Fly high with joy at one of Cirque du Soleil's most popular shows

Since 1984, Cirque du Soleil has dramatically evolved the circus art, replacing elephants, lions and bombastic ringmasters with performances more along the lines of Ingmar Bergman than the Ringling Brothers. Alegr’ais one of their most popular touring shows. According to director Franco Dragone, Alegr’ais "a baroque ode to the energy, grace and power of youth." That could be a little more clear, but whatever it means, we know there will be bizarre costumes, bendable performers and a bit of flame juggling involved. It also boasts one of the most popular scores of any Cirque show, and was adapted into a film that featured (no kidding) Whoopi Goldberg. Wednesday to Sunday. Berry Center, 8877 Barker Cypress Road. For information, call 281-894-3900 or visit www.berrycenter.net. $32 to $99.
